With one win (Hard Bulls) and two defeats (Wanderers, Attnang Firebirds) in the preliminary round, the BeaverStars, the Metrostars children's syndicate with the Vienna Beavers, qualified for the game for 5th place in the championship. Old friends were waiting there with the Blue Bats and in an exciting game the Schwechaters left the field as winners with 11:7. Nevertheless, a solid 6th place in the young team's first U10 ÖM participation!
The U10 team started the tournament well on Friday evening and won 8:7 against the Hard Bulls. Player of the day was Paul, who happily hit the ball after 2 outs in the 6th inning, ensuring his team won.
On Saturday it was first against the Wanderers, and as expected the game ended 14:4 for the colleagues in the green jerseys. The fact that this defeat was no shame was evident from the fact that the Wanderers later left the field with gold after the thrilling final against the Hurricanes.
The highlight, and one that could hardly be surpassed in terms of excitement, was the game against the Firebirds, the home team from Attnang. The teams fought on equal terms and there was great fighting on both sides, good shots and lots of good plays. In the 6th inning the kids were behind and running out of time. After a timeout, everything was suddenly right and the children fought back three times with quick outs. In the 8th inning, the Attnangers were finally ahead by 1 point. The result (14:15 loss) counted little for all spectators, as the tournament had never seen such a close and exciting game until then. At the end of the season, the BeaverStars had finally arrived and had surpassed themselves together.
Thanks also to the coaches and the parents who came along for their commitment. Overall, it was an exciting and wonderful weekend for everyone, including an unforgettable match.
